Hsing-I Quan
Hsing-I Quan

The many forms of Hsing-I arose out of the ancient Chinese philosophy dating back to the Sung Dynasty (960-CE) surrounding the concept of Yin-Yang and the theory of the five elements. Metal, wood, water, wood, fire and earth which constitute the fundamental practice. Chinese theory is that the five elements make up the human body and the universe and their interactions with each other. ( Five Element Fist) Commonly known as "Chinese Form Mind Boxing", is linear in form with left and right arm, fist and leg movements. Hsing-I is an effective fighting style which is used in the Cheng Ming system as the foundation for training "fa-jing" or "expressed force". Hsing-I can be employed to neutralize aggressive action and for counter attack. The five basic forms are splitting, crushing, drilling, pounding and crossing fists combines with static leg movements in co-ordination..

The theory is profound, but in simple terms, each punch represents a universal element. Each movement associated with the punch affects a major internal organ and so it provides health stimulation to the assoicated organ. Grandmaster Wang Shu Chin and Master Wang Fu Lai belong to this grand dynasty and have passed on their knowledge to their indoor pupils and qualified instructors.

From a health point of view, Hsing-I practice opens up the rib cage, strenghts shoulders, arms and fists, tones arms and legs.

Sufferers of asthma and arthritis has told that Hsing-I has improved their as lungs are expanded and blockages in organs disperse.

Miriam has reached a high level of the Hsing-I forms and incorporates the form in her daily practice. This form is offered to Intermediate and advanced students who are training in this if they show a level of committment to regular practice. Other students considered are those who have trained previously in Tai Chi or some other form of Chinese Martial Arts.
